Overhead Crane Operator

The Overhead Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating overhead bridge cranes, hoists, and related lifting equipment to move materials throughout the facility. This role supports production, shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations by ensuring loads are handled efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with all safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate overhead bridge cranes, pendant?controlled cranes, and hoists to lift, move, position, and place materials.
• Inspect cranes, slings, hooks, chains, and rigging equipment before each use; report any defects or hazards.
• Follow load charts, weight limits, and proper rigging techniques to ensure safe lifting operations.
• Communicate clearly with spotters, ground personnel, and supervisors using hand signals or radios.
• Move raw materials, finished goods, and large components to designated areas to support production flow.
• Maintain accurate records of material movements when required.
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
• Adhere to OSHA, company, and site?specific safety procedures at all times.
• Assist with general labor, material handling, or warehouse tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience operating overhead cranes in an industrial, warehouse, steel, or manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of safe rigging practices, load balance, and material handling procedures.
• Ability to read and follow instructions, load tags, and production schedules.
• Strong attention to detail and situational awareness.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift materials as required by the job.
• Certification in overhead crane operation or rigging (preferred but not always required).

Work Environment

Industrial or manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures. Requires use of PPE such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel?toe boots.
